When the Church Falls to Her Knees

So Peter was kept in prison, but prayer was being made earnestly to God for him by the church. Acts 12:5

Herod killed James and put Peter in prison. This brought the church to its knees and an angel rescued Peter.

Lord, this story touches on so many questions that plague the faith of many!

Why do bad things happen to good people? Why do some people live and others die? Why did you answer my neighbor’s prayer, but didn’t answer mine?

In the process of searching for the answers to these questions, many people turn away from the Church and some even turn away from you.

I think the most teachable part of this story is that the Church was brought to its knees. In the face of persecution, the loss of James, and the imprisonment of Peter – the Church bowed low to your grace!

Lord, when hardship and trials threaten our faith, bring us to our knees in supplication and intercession. Help us to reach out to others so we may face difficult times as a unified Body of Christ.

Hey I just got caught up your journal entries here. A lot of this line of prayers and questioning reminds me of myself. You are processing through a lot of things.

I will confess I chuckled at your words about Stephen when you said Stephen did not sign up for this.

You may find me mentally ill when I say this: but I love that story. There is something about hearing a man's dying and tortured words as he is devoting his last breath to God that sets my heart aflame. But, the squeamish part of me says, "hello Jesus wasn't' this a little on the harsh side? Did things have to go down like this?"

So you are getting ready for school too I see. On a side note: I just spent 5 hours yesterday in the financial aid office and got absolutely NOTHING resolved. I was fit to be tied.

Lord God,

when Your word tells me that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much ... i believe You. help me in my unbelief.

when you command me to confess my faults to others and to pray for others, i say, yes Lord. help me by your grace to fulfill our vow.

by Your Holy Spirit's power may it be so for Yvette and for all of us.
